Corporate Accountability

The take-away Ready to take on some of the most powerful forces in our society? We’re looking for a Climate Director to join a fierce, smart team challenging global corporations, holding them accountable, and creating a world where all people can thrive. Why you’ll love coming to work every day You’ll help change the world by being part of fearless and winning campaigns. You’ll be joining an organization that’s not satisfied with the world as it is—and has a vision for how it should be. When your quest is ending corporate abuse, you can’t be afraid to name names and demand what the world needs. For more than 40 years, we’ve been exposing and challenging the abuses of the likes of Nestlé, Exxon Mobil, Philip Morris International, McDonald’s, and more. We don’t back down, and we run campaigns until we win. You’ll work with awesome people. Join a team of passionate, kind, determined, optimistic, and solutions-oriented folks. We work hard, celebrate victories large and small, and always have each other’s backs. You can take on big responsibilities as you go. You’ll thrive here as you develop new skills, tackle new challenges, learn, and grow. We pay lots of attention to building staff leadership, and we provide support and training to help you grow in your role. You’ll be part of an organization committed to advancing racial equity and transforming systems of oppression. We are deeply committed to prioritizing the leadership of people who bear the brunt of corporate abuse: Black and Indigenous people and other people of color, women, low-income people, people in the Global South, and LGBTQ+ folks around the world. Our unique culture has been fostered by a long history of women at the helm. We are actively focusing on the leadership of our staff of color, knowing we are stronger when the organization reflects the vision of the world we’re building together.   What you’ll do We live in remarkable times. The climate crisis is posing an existential threat to all of us and transnational corporations are at the heart of the disaster. Over the past decade, Corporate Accountability has partnered deeply with organizers and activists from around the world to Kick Big Polluters out of climate policy. As the consistent threats of the fossil fuel industry and other Big Polluters continue to grow, our climate campaign is at a pivotal moment of assessing how we can continue to make our greatest impact.  In this role, you’ll use your knowledge of the varying climate issues we face to develop and shape the next iteration of our climate campaign strategy to stop Big Polluters from continuing to devastate communities and the planet, while exposing the interconnected climate abuses that exist beyond these industries. You’ll work closely with our Managing Director of Campaigns alongside our research, broader campaigns, and communications teams to ensure we continue to build a collective vision for justice and success alongside the broader climate justice movement.  You will work closely with allies and coalition partners to deepen our existing partnerships and build new ones in the United States and around the world. You’ll develop and execute strategy meetings to create the plans we need to win and ensure they are implemented to make their greatest impact. And you’ll manage the financial and logistical systems for the campaign that are critical to keep us on track towards our goals. In doing so, you will play an integral part in leading the change we need to ensure our collective, global survival. Who you are The rampant abuses of corporations and the outrageous amount of power they have make you mad as hell—and you want to do something about it. You have a commitment to advancing racial equity and ending systems of oppression, and are ready to do this in your day-to-day work. You understand that campaigning for justice must include working to dismantle white supremacy, institutional racism, legacies of colonialism, and anti-Blackness. You are a seasoned organizer. You know how to create and implement a strong campaign plan: from development and honing in on strategy and targets, to goals and tactics, to expertly facilitating meetings and processes to implement your plan each step of the way. You can bring together a group of diverse participants, build on shared goals and visions, and work toward strategic outcomes.  You have experience organizing decision makers across varying sectors. The secret to your success? You know how to build relationships with integrity, leverage connections, and move people with power to action. Your trust-building and communications skills get you in the door, and your active listening and tenacious organizing skills get you to the “yes” that is needed. You are skilled at keeping things moving, while also knowing when it’s necessary to slow down; you know how to delegate effectively. You know what it takes to manage from a place of leadership. Simply put, you know how to effectively bridge the gap between your team’s work and success, the coalitions you partner with, and how that adds up to supporting the overall priorities of the organization. And you know that managing a campaign and ally relationships also means navigating changing conditions with grace, making hard decisions, and having hard conversations—and the best way to do so is with openness, fairness, and input from others. You’re a team player at heart. You’ve got the skills and experience to create a shared vision among a diverse group of people and motivate them to work together towards accomplishing their shared goals. You also know how to establish structure and clarity of roles and responsibilities within your team, ensuring organizational capacities align with team success. And you have demonstrated successfully working with people from a wide range of backgrounds, geographies, and cultural contexts. You can work under pressure, and can come up with creative solutions when unexpected situations arise. When something doesn’t go as planned, you’re ready to adapt to changes and challenges and adjust to get back on track. You have at least 5 years of experience in corporate campaigning, climate organizing, or other relevant fields.  What you’ll be responsible for in the day-to-day Lead the climate campaign development in alignment with organizational priorities and budgets. Support the facilitation of strategic planning meetings to ensure we have the long-term and short-term vision, strategy, goals, and plans to advance an integrated campaigns agenda, all with an eye towards racial equity.
