Location: This position will be located in our  Padilla Bay Office  in Mount Vernon, WA.  Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. The Commission provides resources, coordination, and technical assistance to seven county-based Marine Resources Committees (MRCs) and leads marine conservation projects throughout the region. This Program Coordinator position offers a unique opportunity to support this collaborative, community-driven conservation effort by ensuring strong coordination, communication, and engagement across the MRCs and a broad network of regional partners. In this role, you will help advance the Commission’s mission by planning and coordinating meetings and events, maintaining communication tools and documents, and providing essential logistical and administrative support to staff, partners, and volunteers. You will work closely with the Commission’s board, committees, MRCs, and external collaborators to support shared priorities and keep program operations running smoothly. What makes this role unique? Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen     The Department of Ecology is hiring six  Watershed Health Monitoring Etech (Environmental Technician)  positions   within the   Environmental Assessment Program   for the Summer 2025 field season. These are temporary positions that will start on June 16, 2026 and end no later than October 15, 2026. The end date is flexible and depends on how the field season goes. Students needing to return to school in the fall are still encouraged to apply.    Location: The positions are based out of   Lacey, WA ,  with work primarily focused on the Snake River region with some sample sites statewide. Key work activities include hiking, field navigation, biological monitoring, water quality sampling, habitat surveys, and using different types of monitoring equipment. The information that you collect will help assess the condition of streams and watersheds. The data is used to describe the status and trends of watershed health, lakes, and other environmental conditions to better inform natural resource conservation and management plans. The Department of Ecology’s Watershed Health Monitoring program assesses streams and rivers across the state to obtain a consistent, objective picture of habitat and biological conditions. We sample eight regions in the state on a rotating basis. Our scientists evaluate watershed health in streams and rivers by analyzing the monitoring data for each region. You will directly support these ongoing data collection efforts as we survey streams and rivers in the Upper Columbia region this summer. What you will do:  Under supervision and direction of professional staff, serve as field assistant on a 4- member crew conducting watershed health protocols including physical stream surveys, measuring various chemical parameters, and collecting biological samples. Conduct initial review of the raw data recorded in the field for completeness and overall quality. Collect water, sediment, and periphyton samples. Assist with organizing and maintaining all field equipment, including the calibration of water quality multi-probes. Help with habitat surveys, assist with benthic macroinvertebrate sampling, and help assess fish assemblage. Work in rugged and sometimes remote field locations for consecutive days under adverse weather conditions, including overnight stays and/or weekend work. The Environmental Assessment Program will provide Personal Protective Equipment. Location: Central Region Office in  Union Gap, WA . Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. Field work to complete inspections is expected approximately 8 to 10 days per month. Field work includes travel within the counties of central Washington. Applications received after the date above may not be considered.   Duties As a   Senior Environmental Inspector - Underground Storage Tanks (UST) , you will play a critical role in protecting the state’s land, water, and air by preventing environmental contamination through regulatory oversight of underground storage tank (UST) facilities. As a regional UST technical specialist, you will ensure UST systems are operated and maintained in compliance with state regulations to prevent releases to the environment. This position offers a dynamic mix of fieldwork, technical problem-solving, and collaboration, including conducting UST inspections, educating facility owners on compliance, and issuing enforcement actions. You will serve as a trusted resource for interpreting and implementing the state’s UST laws, regulations, and standard operating guidelines, and as a key point of contact for resolving high-priority and emerging UST issues in coordination with other Ecology programs. In this role, you will support and mentor UST staff, collaborate with statewide peers, and engage with regulated entities and other interested parties. You will also serve on the Statewide UST Task Team, helping shape technical and regulatory decisions that affect UST program implementation across the state. As a Senior UST Inspector, you will mentor, advise, and train junior inspectors, sharing your expertise in UST regulations and technical equipment.  Duties will include: Conduct UST inspections in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) technical compliance guidance, independently applying professional judgment to identify violations and determine appropriate corrective actions. Perform UST system installation, retrofit, and decommissioning inspections to ensure work meets regulatory and environmental protection standards. Issue enforcement actions consistent with the UST Inspector Enforcement Manual and follow up with responsible parties to return facilities to compliance. Investigate complaints of suspected leaking underground storage tanks, documenting findings and recommending next steps. Provide technical assistance and education to UST owners, operators, contractors, and internal staff on UST regulations, forms, and compliance requirements. Provide testimony for Pollution Control Hearing Board hearings, case reviews, and court cases involving UST regulations and enforcements. Advise and train junior UST inspectors in all aspects of UST duties. Create and revise guidance documents and develop tools to assist UST inspectors. Coordinate with owners, operators, contractors, and local governments on complex UST projects, and contribute to special projects such as developing or updating guidance, tools, and resources for inspectors. Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen The Department of Ecology is hiring an  Air and Waste Management Engineer (Environmental Engineer 3)   within the  Nuclear Waste Program .   Location: Richland Field Office in  Richland, WA . Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. Schedule: This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options. Duties We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to serve as an Environmental Engineer for the Hanford site-wide Air Operating Permit and Notice of Construction (NOC) approval orders. In this role, you will apply your professional engineering expertise to review and evaluate the Sitewide Air Operating Permit and its modifications, assess new or proposed approval orders, negotiate and prepare permit materials, and provide recommendations for enforcement actions. Your engineering judgment and expertise will be essential to ensuring the proper implementation of state and federal air quality regulations, dangerous waste regulations, and CERCLA regulations. Using agency and program policies, as well as technical engineering guidelines and procedures covering design requirements, you will conduct engineering reviews of operation and maintenance requirements for Hanford waste sites and facilities.    This is a challenging yet highly rewarding position. Your work will directly support Ecology’s mission and play a critical role in advancing cleanup at the Hanford Site - one of the most complex environmental cleanup efforts in the nation.
